Conclusion: WOW, couldn't have found them at a better time! Best part of it is they're playing a show in Toronto in a couple of days (February 24 at the Horseshoe Tavern). Anyhow, The Head and The Heart are a great band that will perfectly fit in amongst my Dawes and Fleet Foxes obsessive playlist. Their music is uplifting and makes the heart feel good. Clapping and rejoicing the lyrics are a must when listening, especially when everyone in the house is asleep. It's happy folk music that will leave an impression on what the Seattle folk scene has in it's back pocket. Happy listening!

Conclusion: Ellie is probably the first artist I've listened to, to positively resemble Bjork's beautiful voice. Last person to win the Brit's Critic award was Florence & the Machine and we know how much good that did for her... I expect relatively the same amount of footway... Opening Group: Mookie & The Loyalists

___First timers in Toronto, Michael Fitz and Noelle Scaggs (Fitz & The Tantrums) spent most of their morning doing interviews and touring the city! Meeting them was awesome, especially Michael. He was such a sweetheart! I had the opportunity to host a small interview with him, which I'll leave at the bottom of the entry. So, how were they in person? Humble and super interested in interacting with fans! Amazing, because I wasn't sure how they would be.

___Opening the nights events was a band by the name of Mookie & The Loyalists. Totally old school, flashy, a band who would and did cover "Hound Dog" (Elvis) kinda band. I had a lot of fun during their set. Lead singer Mookie Morris was definitely the re-incarnated Elvis. Reppin the red suit, you could tell this guy really knew how to work the stage! ___Clearing the stage of most instrument, with the addition of some... It was time for Fitz! I notice the lights were the same tono of blue and red from their website, and this was making me really excited! Surprisingly enough, the floor wasn't as crowded as I had expected it to be...The night was underrated, which meant more space to dance! They hit the stage and started off with "Don't Gotta Work It Out". The band looked absolutely fabulous! Dressed to impress, and they certainly did! They got the crowd dancing, clapping, singing... it was so much fun! When "We Don't need no Love Songs" came on, all I wanted was to be dressed like folks from the 1960s and to be dancing with a boy in a fedora. There was nothing to not love about their set yesterday! Michael Fitz sang with every cell in his body, until he fell purposely to the ground at the end of a song! I was wide-eyed throughout the show. Back men like Jame's King impressed me too, from playing the Sax to the Flute, I was just super glad to be there. At one point they had the whole audience get down, and I mean really get down and jump up... it was just too much fun. Thank you for an amazing night guys. The Mod Club was the place to be Wednesday night, and if you were there, I'm sure you can agree!

And now, a few words with Michael Fitz himself.

LTT- How are you liking Toronto? When did you arrive?
Fitz- We only got here this morning and Noelle and I hit the ground running... did a ton of press and tv ... this woman from Toronto drove us all around...so we got to already see quite a bit of the city. We went to the university and did an interview at the radio station ...

LTT: How are you liking the tour so far?
Fitz: Loving it you know...and it's been really exciting for us...on this tour we're getting to go to so many cities that we've never been to like Toronto, Montreal, Portland, Maine, Boston, and it's a lot of places we've never been ... Finding out that we've got a lot of fans in places we didn't know, so for us as a band it's really rewarding to see that the music is getting out there

LTT-So after this tour, is there anything planed with other bands? I know you've previously toured with Maroon five...
Fitz- Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Flogging Molly... Uhh, I don't know... I know there's been talk about maybe going on the road with some other artist... but uh, right now were just sorta enjoying doing this sorta smaller club tour... like being the headliners of our own tours, just going out there and building it on our own.

LTT- Any music festivals lined up so far?
Fitz- Yah we got Austin City Limits, Sasquatch (Washington State), and a couple here in Canada that I'm not allowed to say.

LTT- Have you guys thought about collaborating with other artists?
Fitz- Uhm, not yet, but we're definitely open to it.. had a couple emails back and fourth with people so we'll see if that comes...were about to do a remix contest for the first single of Money Grabber... we're going to put that up online for people to take the elements and do their own twist ... i love when people remix stuff ...it's always good to hear people's take on stuff..
LTT- Yah, I've actually heard a couple online...

Fitz- Ce-lo is pretty bad ass, Adele is amazing, but I really like Major Lazer

LTT- So what as a band have you guys been listening to on the road?
Fitz- Major Lazer, Deerhunter... we get some band that gives us their cd and yah we always check it out...local acts and stuff like that...

LTT- Any upcoming albums to look out for?
Fitz- Well we're definitely already working on our next record...when it comes out? I don't know...But we've definitely started the process of writing... going in and back in the studios when were not on the road...might release another single for a 7-inch collectors vinyl in the next couple months, we'll see!

Opening Group: The Bahamas

___So my day started with a quick chat with the security gaurd of the event at the Opera House. It turns out that the original opener, Dylan Leblanc, wasn't able to cross the boarder so Lissie and the guys were out looking for another act to open. They showed up around 5:30P.M. and my friend and I gave her this stuffed tiger we found at the dollar store and she loved it! :P She was sick and wasn't able to chat very long, especially because it was freezing cold outside. All in all, upon first impression she seems like a great person, willing to stand outside in the cold to talk to fans. A+ Lissie!

___Filling in for Dylan was The Bahamas, they took the stage shortly after playing a set on the George Stroumboulopoulos show. Considering they’re a local act that came on such short notice I was thoroughly impressed with what they had to offer! They had great stage presence and knew what to do to please the crowd. ___As soon as The Bahamas finished their set, Lissie's crew began setting up the stage for her performance. A crew member even put the tiger we got her on the drum set, so cool! The lights went off and thecrowed was rattled! She came to the stage and started her set with “Wedding Bells”, a personal favourite of mine. It was absolutely beautiful, and completely breathtaking. Throughout her show I felt like she was sharing pieces of her life with me. Her performance was so heart hitting and personal; I felt like we were good friends and she was sharing songs she had written, songs that I could relate to on incredible levels. She was amazing, the end. I can go on forever on how incredible she was, but you have to see it for yourself. Lissie is someone to look out for in 2011!

Conclusion: I regret not putting her album “Catching a Tiger” on my top 10 albums of the year, because it deserved it 100%! You have to go see her live if you like this album, she's phenomenal.

-Played Glastonbury, SXSW, and Leeds. They were initially got invited to play Lollapalooza (2008) but had to miss out because their Album (Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down 2008) was released the next day after the beginning of the festival.
-Their Album The First Day of Spring has a corresponding movie created by the band with themes based on the lyrical content. The band wrote the record as one song with preconceived intentions to make a corresponding video. Check it out! click here.

Conclusion: They've been around for a while, but if you've been musically hibernating then here's your wake up call! Their album The First Day of Spring(2009) is absolutely beautiful. Charlie's voice brings me the mystic feeling I get listening to Matt Berninger from The National with the subtle taste of Arcade Fire's use of instrumentals. His voice is different, but just as lovely. The film that corresponds with the album is something you have to check out (Link here). It's genius. I feel bad for blogging about them so late, but as they say, better late then never! Plus, they're coming to Toronto March 24 to The Mod Club. Conclusion: I like his stuff, it's very Duran Duran meets Grizzly Bear and Kele (Bloc Party Lead Singer). I like how he uses sounds from things like toys to sounds like the motion of a boot stepping into fresh snow... Everything is music to him. I also think it's cool to hear something with influences from three different parts of the world (Florida+Brooklyn+Copenhagen). It's great that he got Chris Taylor to produce his album because I think it really adds to the mellow-ness and chilled out feeling of the Album. George (Twin Shadow) decided he wanted Chris Taylor to produce his album after seeing his love for using different sounds at a Grizzly Bear Concert in Copenhagen. Weeks later Chris emailed George interested to work together... Awesome! The Album Forget didn't take long to sink in for me which is a good sign! I'm really excited for the show tomorrow and hopefully I have something fun to report back to everyone.

Conclusion: This is so Motown meets pop of today... I dig it! I feel like I just stepped out of a time machine and everything is black and white! Definitely a band that puts on a dance party for a concert. According to an interview I saw with Michael and Noelle, they got together very sporadically finding each other through people they knew...and once they started jamming together it was made to be. It's amazing how people like this can find each other in the right place and the right time and make music this fun. Check them out if you like what you hear, it only gets better from there!

Conclusion: I fell in love instantly after hearing Bible Belt. With only a few songs to offer at this point, Dry the River is definitely a band to look out for in 2011. It sorta reminds me of Dallas Green mixed in with The Morning Benders and Mumford & Sons. Their music is completely enchanting and paints a beautiful picture of their lives. What I like best about them is the way the music makes me feel. Listen to them and Download their EP off their website...Also check out their Black Cab Session, CLICK HERE. You will not regret it!

___There isn't much information out there about these guys, but from what I can tell, they seem like good company. I read this interview posted on Neu Magazine and it really opened a window into what inspires them to make music. They had them choose albums that reflect their musical interests and it really shows their wide range of taste. From the looks of it, they seem like a very psychedelic, harmonious, & synthesizer kinda band... and I'm liking it! What really got the UK population looking at them though was their cover of Who do you Love? by The Sapphires, and It's great. Check it out, CLICK HERE.

If you are not familiar with Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, check out my Artist breakdown here. Although I hope you are, because they are one of my favourite bands of the year. Well, where to begin? Let's just get this out there, I had the most amazing time December 3rd thanks to this extremely talented band. Wow. Let's do this the Tucker Max way.

1:55PM - Arrive at The Mod Club. Show is at 7:30PM. Somebody is anxious... lol

2:30PM - Still riding SOLO... I felt really awkward.

2:31PM - Time for Coffee... It's cold out.

3:00PM - I see a mysterious looking coach bus...

3:10PM - False alarm.

3:30PM - Taxi Cab rolls up with a beige "rape van" lookin thing behind it.

3:31PM - See a blonde inside the Taxi cab and realize HEY, IT'S NORA FROM EDWARD SHARPE!!!!

My heart was literally beating like crazy... typical fan girl symptom. It was expected though...

3:31PM - They come out of their vehicles and I introduce myself in a very... OMG I AM SO HAPPY YOU GUYS ARE HERE, HOW WAS THE FLIGHT? YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING.. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SHOW! (Also felt it necessary t

o show them my Edward Sharpe shirt, since showing up 5 hours early wasn't enough of a good fan indicator.

3:33PM - Shake hands with all the members of the band. Creep em out by knowing all of their names... pahaha. Also, Jade said she likes my Boots! :D Here they are for those of you who care.

They made their way into the venue and I commenced calling my mom to tell her HOW HAPPY I WAS! haha.

4:01PM - The Mod Club manager lets me in so that I don't freeze myself. At this point I'm listening to their sound check.

4:02PM - Txt my mom to tell her HOW HAPPY I WAS!!! ... again.

4:30PM - Christian comes out for a smoke and I shortly join him. For the record, I don't smoke.

Him and I were talking for a good 15 minutes about their tour and where they're off to next. It was awesome. Good news guys, they're coming out

with a new CD by Summer!! :D Just in time for my birthday! I asked him what his favourite place was to tour and he said it was Australia... good job guys! He was so nice.

5:40PM - My friends finally show up, just in time to catch Jade coming out for a smoke.

We sat with her and spoke about her experiences in Toronto. All good things of course... pahaha. I asked her how it was to tour with Dawes and she said is was awesome! She told me they're brothers and she was pleasantly surprised tha

t I already knew that... pahaha thank you Entry #30. :)

Anyways back to the Show. Best Concert Ever. They played all of their hits and some new stuff. Unfortunately they never played Jade. The reason why I found this unfortunate was because earlier in the day I had picked orange flowers that I wanted to give herduring that song. But! It was kinda cool that they never played it because I ended up giving them to Alex. So anyways, I passed the flowers over to him and he took them and looked at me and said THAT'S FUCKED UP. Hahahahahahaha. He lowered himself to my level and whispered in my ear. " In the airplane on my way to Toronto, flowers kept coming to me. At first I thought they were white flowers, but realized they looked mor

e orange. Thank you so much for these."

He was so touched and happy, he kept smelling them and looking at the crowd. I died.

He got back up and jumped off stage and into the crowd still holding my flowers. Gave me a big hug and continued into the middle of the crowd :) "Okay guys, I'm going to play one more song." Everyone around him sits down and all of a sudden I died a little more. He played one of the saddest songs I know. That moment couldn't have been more perfect.

Alright so this band is beautiful. Vocals/Instrumentals are definitely something to fall in love with. Absolutely amazing. If you like Mumford & Sons, or Deer Tick, this band is up your ally! Please check them out. North Hills is an album worth buying, which means a lot in today's time. Enjoy!

I wasn't a huge fan before the show but this was definitely the case of loving a band only after seeing them live. Know what I mean!? They were amazing! Totally with the crowd and just alive. Great feel for an ending show of a tour. Spencer and Dan's Vocals were flawless and I had a great time. Lots of crowd surfers but as Wolf Parade said, Don't Get Caught! Definitely reviewing past albums much more attentively. Great show!

Conclusion: They're definitely one of the best bands I've heard this year. I saw them at Lolla and it was absolutely amazing! One of the best shows I saw there. Their album Up From Below is amazing, the best thing that could come from a 10 piece set. One of my favourite things about them is their energy and how much fun they have on stage. Being at their show you just get high on life. I'm checkin them out again this coming December at The Mod Club (Sold out) and I already ordered a shirt. AHHH, can't wait. CHECK THEM OUT!

Conclusion: She has such a refreshing sound that I think completely reflects her appearance. She's the kinda girl who doesn't wear makeup and doesn't spend her time trying to be something she isn't, and with that in mind... Lissie doesn't need to spend time producing her music because when it comes down to it, it's beautiful just the way it is! If you like singing and feeling good about your music, you have to listen to this one! :)

PS. Torontonians, She has an upcoming concert at the Opera House in January, I'll be there! :D

Matt & Kim: Sidewalks

Matt & Kim, Sidewalks. Following the release of Grand (January, 20th,2009), this Brooklyn duo released their third album Sidewalks on November 2nd, 2010. What I personally really like about this band is just what each of them has to offer. We have Matt's corky happy go lucky voice and Kim's talented drumming skills. Although an OK sounding album, I just don't think it properly showcases their charm as artists. There are a lot more synthesizers and mellow electronic indie songs and It's just not the Matt & Kim I fell in love with. Although there is still the possibility that I could learn to love the album, my first impression of it was mediocre. I don't want to sound like I'm totally hating on the album, I just had expected more from this release. I still love them, and will continue to listen to them.
